Description:
Random events influence all areas of human endeavor, from the sciences
and social sciences to business. This course supplies the mathematical
framework for analyzing probabilities. In addition, it provides a
background for the study of statistics, one of the most widespread
applications of mathematics.
Topics covered:
Probability spaces; combinatorial problems; random variables and
expectations; discrete and continuous distributions; generating
functions; independence and dependence; binomial, normal, and
Poisson laws; laws of large numbers.
