UR 2008 Putnam Results
This year a total of 3627 students from 545 colleges in North America participated in the
prestigious William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition, with 405 teams officially registered.
The University of Rochester team, composed of Chris Kauffman, Kevin Lin, and Xiaoqing Tang,
had the best result ever for a Rochester team, being ranked 10th over all, and earned an
honorable mention. Individually, Chris was ranked 145th; Kevin, 157th; and Xiaoqing, 262nd.
Our senior, Cheng Sun, was ranked 400th, while Zachary De Santis and Eric Ottman were in top 620.
Seven other UR students, Yi Han, Dennis Huo, Halley Orshan, Jordan Paschke, Raisa Trubko, Lia Joy
Weiner, and Greg Wilbur, had distinguished performances. A total of 23 Rochester students competed in the contest.
