Kristin Beck ('09) Wins Churchill Scholarship

A prestigious Churchill Scholarship has been awarded to mathematics major Kristin Beck (class of 2009; Honors BA mathematics, BS physics) by the Winston Churchill Foundation . A Scholarship provides between $42,000 and $50,000 for one year of postgraduate study in residence at Churchill College at the University of Cambridge in the UK. Students at 102 colleges and universities in the US are eligible to be nominated for a Churchill; eight Scholars have gone on to win Nobel Prizes. Kristin is one of just 14 Scholars selected this year and one of 480 since the first three in 1963. Kristin is the third UR math major in a row to win a Churchill. Andrew Niles ('08; Honors BA) is currently a Scholar in the Tripos III Program at Cambridge, and Robert Penna ('07; Honors BA mathematics, BS physics) was a Scholar in 2007-08.
