Physicists Rajeev and Shapir Join the Department

Physicists Sarada Rajeev and Yonathan Shapir are well known in the UR math deparment because of their mathematical interests. Rajeev works in quantum field theory, while Shapir's field is statistical physics. Ideas from physics have played an important role in mathematics ever since Newton, or even since Archimedes. In recent years, this cross-fertilization has increased dramatically. We are pleased to announce that Rajeev and Shapir will be joining the department. Officially, they will have joint appointments in math and physics.
