UR Students Score Highly at Virginia Tech Math Contest
Dan Geba and John Harper's
problem solving seminar
is off to a fast start, and has attracted a lively and talented group of
undergraduates. Recently several of the participants attended the 28th
Virginia Tech Regional Mathematics Contest, where they competed with students
from many of the top East Coast universities. One of our own students, Cheng
Sun, placed third out of 347 participants. Eric Dobson, a high school student
who is attending the problem solving seminar, finished 54th, a remarkable
achievement for someone who is not yet a university student.
The problem solving group looks forward to future competitions, such as the
Putnam exam. We'll keep you informed.
