The Wing bequest
Long time U of R benefactor G. Milton Wing, Class of '44, has made a generous six figure bequest to the Department of Mathematics . The money will be used to endow a lecture series in mathematics of interest to the scientific community and to support graduate students' travel to meetings and conferences in the same spirit.
Wing received his BA from Rochester in 1944 and his MS in 1947. In 1949 he received his doctorate from Cornell. He is the author of four books and over 80 published papers. His career was evenly divided between industry and academia. He worked for many years at Los Alamos National Laboratory and taught at several universities including UCLA, UC Berkeley, the University of New Mexico, and Southern Methodist University where he was Chairman of the Department of Mathematics. He was the advisor to nine doctoral students and has over a dozen grandstudents and great grandstudents.
