Career planning guide

The Mathematics Department has put together a new Career Planning Guide. Math majors need to know what kinds of jobs mathematicians do and how they get them. Mathematicians are employed in pure research, applied research, computer applications, engineering, operations research, financial analysis, and many other fields, so many that the very variety can cause bewilderment as to how to prepare for a future career. In addition to guidance in finding job information on the internet and in how to create a resume, the Career Planning Guide has a collection of over 60 profiles of mathematicians and their careers in industry. It is overwhelmingly clear that mathematical training combined with strong computer skills gives math majors access to a wide variety of job opportunities.
