Research Facilities
The University of Rochester is a private, coeducational institution,
with approximately 1,100 full-time faculty, 2,700 full-time graduate
students, and 5,000 full-time undergraduates. The graduate student
body is truly international in scope, with roughly one-third of all
graduate students coming from outside the United States and
representing more than 80 different countries.
The Math department is located on the top floors of Hylan Hall,
the tallest building on campus.
Our library and computer facilities are extensive and conveniently located.
Adjacent to Hylan Hall is Carlson Library (the Mathematics and Science
library). It is a full research library with
over 150,000 books and nearly 2,000 periodicals.
The Math computer lab has many computers and two laser printers for
general departmental use. Additionally, all faculty offices have computers.
The University subscribes to
MathSciNet, the AMS
database of mathematical research publications.
We have a large lounge where students and faculty
mingle throughout the day. The lounge is where we meet at
tea time before or after seminars.
